The first breath we take
The first moment we awake
The first dawn we see break
It's just the beginning
When we learn how to chew
And how to tie your shoe
And what animal goes moo
And It's just the beginning.
And before you know it,
You're getting older,
And you start to forget what used to be bolder,
So hold on to your childhood,
Before it slips away.
What "childhood" means to me:
To me the length of someones childhood really depends on who you are. I don't think that there is really a defining age when your childhood is over. If you feel younger then you actually are or older than you actually are that's your choice. To me its really a state of mind. In my poem above I used different things that little kids/babies commonly learn in their childhood and then I show how when you gradually start to forget what it feels like to be young, you may not consider yourself a child anymore. The last two lines of the poem I wrote to show how it's hard knowing that you're getting older, and many people don't want to. Even more than that, they want to be kids again. But I think that no matter what age you are, it all depends on whether or not you feel young.
Your poem is really clever and cute! And the explanation you included does a really great job explaining to readers the meaning of the poem.
ReplyDeleteI love the poem! How did you come up with rhymes? I'm so bad with that! It's really impressive. I like the way you incorporated your own memories into it as well as what childhood in general is.
